Sir/ Madam
Urja Prabodhan Kendra (UPK) is a group of senior professionals and social activists from the field of energy and it contributes their expertise and knowledge of the field for the social benefit. UPK has been actively working on the National and State Power issues since the last decade, submitting constructive suggestions/ comments/ recommendations in the interest of stakeholders, to the concerned authorities.
UPK, in association with Sardar Patel College of Engineering has organized a half day seminar on 27 April 2017 (2.30 pm to 6.30 pm), on “Rising Electricity Tariffs, Analysis and way out”, at Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Bhavans Campus, Andheri West. Eminent personalities in the field of power and energy will share their views on the subject.
Objective of the Seminar:
Subsequent to enactment of the Electricity Act, 2003, the Indian power sector has undergone a dynamic change. Most of the Utilities have carried out organizational restructuring and unbundling of Generation, Transmission and Distribution businesses, towards achieving operational efficiency and financial stability, and now the sector should be prepared to shift from regulated business to competitive business.
.
However, even after a long period of over 13 years, issues such as, over subsidized tariffs, supply of un-metered/ free electricity to agriculture, high AT&C losses, internal inefficiencies, etc have thrown the Power Distribution Utilities, in an economic ruin and financial un- sustainability. The cost plus principle of “Determined Tariff” is enabling the utilities to push the cost of these maladies over to the consumers and on the other hand, unhealthy competitions, unprofessional alignments between utilities are also driving the electricity costs and power tariffs of the hapless consumers in upward direction.
This Seminar will focus on the route cause analysis for the failure of the power sector as a whole, to arrest the rise in electricity tariff and will also seek the way out to control its sustained upward trend. Eminent personalities from the sector will share their findings and views and put forward their suggestions to mitigate the issues.
This will be a good opportunity to interact with the experts in the field and also actively participate in the discussions on this nationally important subject. Kindly make it convenient to attend the conference.
Thanking you
